Levosulpiride is an antipsychotic medication used to treat depression, indigestion, psychiatric disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety disorder, vertigo, hallucinations, schizophrenia, and frequent heartburns. The drug is used for the prevention of premature ejaculation.
Levosulpiride is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of dysmotility-like functional dyspepsia and non-erosive reflux disease. Levosulpiride works by increasing the release of acetylcholine. It increases the movement of the stomach and intestines and prevents reflux. Levosulpiride is a substituted benzamide derivative and a selective dopamine D2 antagonist with antipsychotic and antidepressant activity. Other benzamide derivatives include metoclopramide, tiapride, and sultopride.
